Rare genuine WWII Allied recognition scarf. This ground-to-air recognition panel was issued to British and US Airborne troops in the late stages of the war, seeing massive use for the first time in the Netherlands on the occasion of Operation Market Garden in September, 1944.

Once on the ground, paratroopers were to carry this bright yellow panel on their shoulders to facilitate recognition from friendly forces, both from the skies and on the battlefield. This scarf was worn in many different fashions and could be used as a signal flag.

Manufactured by Courtaulds Limited and dated 1941.

Quite good, used condition; a few holes are worthy of note.
