Rare genuine WWII Allied recognition scarf. This ground-to-air recognition panel was issued to British and US Airborne troops in the late stages of the war, seeing massive use for the first time in the Netherlands on the occasion of Operation Market Garden in September 1944.

Once on the ground, paratroopers were to carry this bright yellow panel on their shoulders to facilitate recognition from friendly forces, both from the skies and on the battlefield. This scarf was actually worn in many different fashions and could be used as a signal flag.

Good overall condition in spite of two holes.
