Scarce genuine WWII British cap badge, 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards. Hallmarked J.R. Gaunt London.

In 1940, during the France campaign, the regiment was assigned to the reconnaissance unit of the 4th Infantry Division and took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk in June 1940.

In 1944, the regiment joined the 22nd Armoured Brigade, participating in the Normandy landings and the subsequent battles for the liberation of France and the Netherlands. It continued its advance into Germany, where it took part in the final operations of the war in 1945.
