Grouping, T/3 William Gibson, Medic, 65th Infantry Division, ETO
Rare genuine WWII US Army grouping, which belonged to some William E.C. Gibson and includes the following items:
- Medical Soldier's Handbook, second edition of August 1942, name William E.C. Gibson, ASN 33689915 and various personal details have been written inside; the front cover has come apart;
- The Stars and Stripes, August 15, 1945 issue, announcing the surrender of Japan;
- US/GB-ZG90K 1945 safe-conduct, edited by the Allied high command and intended for German troops who may wish to surrender;
- Lucky Strike 50-cigarette tin box (empty);
- set of various insignia and decorations: Good Conduct Medal with lapel badge, three shoulder sleeve insignia (SHAEF, 9th Infantry Division, and 69th Infantry Division), U.S. and Medical Department collar discs, a pair of 65th Infantry Division collar insignia, 47th Infantry Regiment distinctive unit insignia, 'Ruptured Duck' with lapel badge, a ring, and a religious pendant (crucifix);
- souvenir album containing a large number of original photographs taken in France and Germany circa 1945, along with a couple of 'Invasion Money' banknotes;
- NSDAP banner (dimensions: about 30.5in x 78.7in).
Nice homogeneous lot, in good overall condition.
William Edward Charles Gibson was born on November 29, 1924 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and joined the US Army on June 21, 1943. He deployed to Europe with the 65th Infantry Division as a Medic, and was discharged on April 25, 1946 with the rank of Technician 3rd Grade. He passed away on March 20, 2004.
