Grouping, Y2c Barbara McDonald, SPAR, US Coast Guard
Great genuine WWII US Coast Guard grouping, made up of a blue dress jacket intended for female personnel of the SPAR (Semper Paratus - Always Ready) -- the equivalent of the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) -- with matching skirt and cap, which belonged to Yeoman 2nd Class Barbara F. Doyle (nee McDonald).
Complete with all original buttons (the first one has come apart) and labels, the jacket retains its Yeoman 2nd Class rank/rating sleeve insignia and Coast Guard patch. No collar insigia. The skirt retains its button and Conmar zipper in working order; name McDonald has been handwritten on the tag pinned inside. The hat, which bears no insignia, shows name Barbara F. Doyle written on the label.
Barbara Frances McDonald was born on January 12, 1923 in Salem, Massachusetts and joined the US Coast Guard Reserve on October 19, 1943 (service number 4000-846). She went on to serve as secretary for the Captain of the Port in Boston, Massachussetts and was discharged on May 18, 1945 as a Yeoman 2nd Class. She passed away on July 8, 1976.
