Dress, Short-Sleeved, American Red Cross Volunteer, Hospital and Recreation Corps
Great genuine WWII American Red Cross short-sleeved dress, of the type intended for volunteers of the Hospital and Recreation Corps. Known as the 'Gray Ladies', the latter provided various non-medical services to patients in military hospitals; by the end of the war, their total number reached 50,000.
Tailored in gray cotton cloth, the present dress features two front pockets, and one breast pocket on which a white square bearing an embroidered red cross has been sewn; the shoulder tabs and the fake sleeve hems are made of white cotton cloth.
Very good, worn condition; retains all original pearly buttons.
