Grouping, 1st Lt. Thelma Weckerly, US Army Nurse Corps, ETO
Rare and interesting genuine WWII US Army Nurse Corps grouping, which belonged to some 1st Lieutenant Thelma M. Weckerly and includes the following items:
- a blue wool cape manufactured by Standard Apparel Company in Cleveland, Ohio; name Thelma Weckerly has been embroidered on the red lining and the collar features bullion initials T.H. and S.N.;
- a female personnel 'Ike Jacket' retaining the following insignia: ETOUSA shoulder sleeve insignia, ribbon bars (American Campaign Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Stars), and five Overseas Service Bars; size 14L; the matching skirt completes this uniform (size 16R);
- a female personnel chocolate service dress jacket adorned with the Army Service Forces shoulder sleeve insignia, a pair of 1st Lieutenant rank insignia, and five bullion Overseas Service Bars; the matching skirt completes this uniform;
- a female personnel chocolate service dress jacket retaining the following insignia: ETOUSA shoulder sleeve insignia, a pair of 1st Lieutenant rank insignia, U.S. and Army Nurse Corps collar insignia, ribbon bars (American Campaign Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Stars), Meritorious Service Unit Badge, and five Overseas Service Bars; size 14L; the matching skirt completes this uniform (size 16);
- an OD flannel shirt (size 34) and two light khaki cotton shirts;
- a female personnel chocolate visor hat (size 22 ½) and a female personel garrison cap (size 22), both retaining their metal insignia;
- an OD wool garrison cap and a British-made chocolate gabardine garrison cap, both intended for male personnel (officers);
- a khaki cloth necktie.
Great homogeneous set, in very good overall condition. Name Thelma Weckerly and ASN N-731715 have been written on most of the above-mentioned elements.
Thelma Margaret Weckerly was born on October 11, 1914 in Whitehouse, Ohio. She deployed to England with the Army Nurse Corps and met Peter John Henry Gerken, whom she married on January 10, 1946. She passed away on January 28, 2002.
