Helmet, Adrian, M-1926, with Captured German Belt and FFI Armband, Paris, 1944

Extremely rare genuine WWII French Forces of the Interior set, made up of an Adrian helmet, a captured German belt, and a theater-made tricolor armband, all worn during the liberation of Paris in August 1944.

The M1926 Adrian helmet, which retains most of its original dark khaki paint, has been adorned with a white Cross of Lorraine painted on the front, where some original metal insignia was initially attached; the duralium crest is still in place, along with the original leather chinstrap and liner, although the latter has lost its drawstring; the Industrielle marseillaise ink stamp is visible at the bottom of the shell.

The leather belt, of the standard regulation Wehrmacht type, is dated 1939; the center of the aluminium buckle has been hammered in order to obliterate the Heer eagle, and some Cross of Lorraine has been grossly carved on this emplacement.

Built of three cloth strips -- blue, white and red -- sewn together horizontally, the armband features a painted Cross of Lorraine, here yellow, above which initials 'FFI' have been painted in the same color; number 05006 was inked on the right of this insignia. Dimensions: 13.8in x 4.3in.

A truly amazing lot, of great historical significance.
