Genuine WWII US tin of liquid vesicant detector M5 paint Type 2, that helped detect poisonous gas. Often applied on motor vehicles, especially on the hood, where the ground-to-air recognition star was painted. The brown or green paint would turn red when vesicants were encountered. Soldiers also painted their helmets using this paint.
Manufactured by The Hilton-Davis Chemical Co., Cincinnati, Ohio.
Tin is full and unopened; found in Cully (between Caen and Bayeux) in Normandy.
