Belt, Luftwaffe, Aluminium Buckle, 1938-1939, 4. Kompanie, Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 4, Italy
Great genuine pre-WWII German brown leather belt, retaining its original aluminium buckle adorned with the Luftwaffe eagle.
The belt itself, manufactured by Kern, Käger & Co. in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria, is dated 1938; the leather tab located behind the buckle plate was made by Ulbricht in Vienna, Austria in 1939.
Good, worn condition. Mention 4 Kp FJR 4 has been carved on the inner side of the belt, indicating that it once belonged to some paratrooper of 4. Kompanie du Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 4.
Created in Normandy in 1942, FJR 4 was initially deployed on the Eastern Front, prior to being transferred to Italy via Southern France in the summer of 1943. The unit went on to fight in the vicinity of Catane, Sicily, then in Calabria and in the area of Salerno, in order to repel the various Allied landings, and later participated in the battles of Ortona and Cassino. Following their last combat actions in Northern Italy, the last surviving elements of the regiment were eventually captured in South Tyrol on May 2, 1945.
Overall length: 39in.
