Eyeglasses, Pvt. Jay Oberholzer, WIA, ETO, 1944
Genuine WWII US metal-frame eyeglasses, retaining their original lenses.
Quite good, worn condition; come in their original case, under the lid of which a label -- indicating the visual correction and the owner's name -- is still present: Oberholzer, Jay G.
Jay Glenn Oberholzer was born on August 27, 1924 in Blue Ball, Pennsylvania and joined the US Army on February 10, 1943 (ASN 33500358). He went on to deploy to the European Theater of Operations from May 3, 1944 to November 25, 1945, where he was wounded in action twice by shrapnel -- July and October 1944. He was discharged on November 29, 1945 and passed away on July 7, 1997.
According to his obituary, he served with the 85th Infantry Division -- however, his name and ASN can't be found in any source related to the latter. Moreover, the above-mentioned division exclusively served in Italy, whereas the newspaper article published on July 30, 1944 indicates that he was wounded in action in France. As a matter of fact, we haven't been able to identify his actual unit so far.
