Nice genuine WWII US Navy khaki pressed fiber helmet, a.k.a. 'Pith Helmet'. Introduced in October 1940, this light, colonial-style helmet was intended for warm weather regions and soon adopted by the US Army and US Marine Corps as well.
The present sun helmet retains its original leather chinstrap and liner with drawstring. The following markings are clearly visible inside: International Hat Co., NXsx-35371, Aug. 9, 1943. The front has been adorned with a US Navy Lieutenant rank insignia, while mention Ens. Ed. Seaman has been handwritten under the brim.
Very good overall condition.
