Scarce genuine WWII US Army khaki pressed fiber helmet, a.k.a. 'Pith Helmet'. Introduced in October 1940, this light, colonial-style helmet was intended for warm weather regions and thus adopted by the US Navy and USMC, too.

The present sun helmet retains its original leather liner and canvas chinstrap. The outer surface of the helmet features an interesting theater-made camouflage painted with various green and brown tones. Manufacturer's name, contract number and date are still visible inside: International Hat Co. W30-280-QM-11556 11 December 194[?].

An unusual artefact in very good, worn condition.
