It was made with heavy duty thick leather construction, and a brass throat was added to the side of the leather scabbard to protect the operating rod handle of the M1 rifle. This type of scabbard was carried on the sides of WWII Military Jeeps Willlys MB, Ford GPW, Halftracks, as well as on Harley Davidson WLA and many other military trucks during the wartime period 1941-45.
