Rare genuine WWII Legion of Merit medal, coming in its original case along with a 2nd Lieutenant rank insignia (oxidized) and a 3rd Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia. Name Allan L. Swaimhas been engraved on the reverse of the medal.
The Legion of Merit was created by the US Government on July 20, 1942 and awarded for exceptionnally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. This was the first US award that could be given to foreign nationals and the only one to be issued in several degrees -- Legionnaire, Officer, Commander, and Chief Commander. This is the Legionnaire Degree.
Allan Lee Swaimwas born on May 6, 1915 in Morley, Missouri and was inducted into Federal Service on June 2, 1941 (ASN 37057572) after serving in the National Guard since February 1933. Subsequently commissioned (officer's ASN O-1288140) and soon promoted to 1st Lieutenant, he went on to serve with the 3rd Infantry Division, initially as part of the 30th Infantry Regiment and later with the 15th Infantry Regiment, deploying to North Africa, Sicily and mainland Italy. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his meritorious conduct at Anzio. He passed away on June 25, 1995.

The Code provides additional penalties, including the confiscation of the items used or intended for committing the offence.
