Nice genuine WWII US Purple Heart Medal, coming in its original case along with ribbon bar and lapel badge.
Name Bertrand Bay, Sr. (sic) has been engraved on the reverse.
Great homogeneous set, in very good overall condition.
Bertrand Sylvester Bay was born on November 16, 1906 in Boise, Idaho and joined the US Army on September 14, 1942 (ASN 39833341). He went on to serve with Headquarters Company, 741st Tank Battalion and deployed to Europe, where he was badly wounded in the legs by shell fragments during the assault on Hill 192 near Saint-Lô, Normandy, France on Juy 11, 1944. He died of his wounds three days later and his body was initially buried at La Cambe, prior to being repatriated and interred in his hometown in 1948.
