Grouping, Cpl. Frederick Bowes, Co. E, 30th Inf. Regt., 3rd Infantry Division, WIA, POW, MTO & ETO
Rare genuine WWII US Army grouping, related to some Private First Class Frederick R. Bowes, Company E, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, which includes the following items:
- a Purple Heart Medal, coming in its original case with ribbon bar and lapel badge;
- a lot of various wartime photographs and newspaper clippings.
A copy of the book Stalag VII A : 1939-1945, published in Germany in 1982, comes along with this nice homogeneous set, in very good overall condition.
Frederick R. Bowes was born on March 31, 1923 in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania and joined the US Army on March 23, 1943 (ASN 33505099). He went on to serve with Company E, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division and deployed to Europe, where he saw action at Anzio, Italy prior to participating in the landings in Southern France on August 15, 1944.
Wounded in September and captured near Saint-Dié, Vosges, Eastern France, subsequently interned at Stalag VII A in Moosburg, Bavaria, Germany, he was liberated on April 29, 1945 and repatriated on May 19 of that year. Discharged on October 18, 1945 as a Corporal, he passed away on August 12, 2000.
