Activated in 1942, the US Army Headquarters, European Theater of Operations, oversaw the operations of American forces in Europe during World War II. Based in London, it planned major campaigns such as the Normandy landing and the advance into Germany. It worked closely with Eisenhower's SHAEF and managed military and logistical efforts until the end of the war in 1945.
