Genuine WWII US Army distinctive unit insignia, of the Technical Training Command, USAAF.
The USAAF Technical Training Command insignia is represented by this badge along with the motto Sustineo Alas (I sustain the wings). This badge was in use from July 1942 until the 1945.
The badge was worn on either the uniform tunic lapel or soft cap to show the wearer was assigned to the Technical Training Command. Personnel were responsible for technical training of air mechanics and as well as teaching pilots how to fly the aircraft.
The badge depicts a golden urn with three feathers, each of which represents the three components of the USAAF; namely the Air Corps, Aircrew and Ground Crew. The motto which roughly translates as "I sustain the wings" was more popularly interpreted as "keep ‘em flying".
