Rare genuine WWII Japanese flag, Kyokujitsuki type. Based on the Rising Sun, a traditional symbol in Japan since the Middle Ages, this type was officially adopted in the late 19th century and remained the main war flag of Japan's armed forces until 1945.
The present version features a centered sun, generally considered as the Imperial Army's emblem, whereas the off-center version seems to have been specific to the Imperial Navy.
