Rare genuine WWI US Army M1918 Trench Knife, featuring the characteristic knuckle cast handle and double-edged blade.
This type was widely issued to US Rangers, Marines and paratroops during WWII, until officially superseded by the USM3 in 1943. However, many warriors would still prefer the M1918 Trench Knife, as seen in numerous wartime photos.
Good overall condition; the sides of the guard have been cut off, so that the knife fits properly in its sheath. Name E.W. Sabo has been stamped on the grip.
Comes in its original theater-made leather scabbard -- snap fastener is in working order.
The above-mentioned name could correspond to some Private First Class Everett William Sabo, born on January 5, 1915 in Fairmont, West Virginia and deceased on January 21 1995, who served in the US Marine Corps (https://fr.findagrave.com/memorial/75908187/everett-william-sabo).
