Rare genuine WWII US Army M1 helmet, front seam and fixed loops, manufactured by McCord. Shell number 224A. Original early production canvas chinstrap with brass hook and buckle. Last name White has been stenciled in black capital letters on the front of the shell.
Comes with its original liner, manufactured by Firestone, retaining its original khaki cotton web suspension and neckband, russet leather sweatband and plain A washers. There again, name White has been painted on the front of this liner.
The shell shows three points of impact -- the first one is located on the front, the second on the top, and the third, which is much bigger than the other two, is visible on the rear right side. The projectile which hit this specific part of the helmet has left a major dent in both the steel helmet and the fiber liner. A similar phenomenon can be seen on the front, although the damage is much less significant.
Apart from the above-mentioned battle scars, the outer surfaces of these two elements retain most of their original olive drab paint, thus contributing to the singularity of this very nice homogeneous set.
