Helmet, M1, USO, United Service Organizations, Officer, ETO

Genuine WWII US Army M1 helmet, front seam and fixed bales, manufactured by McCord -- shell number 704C.

Red initials USO have been stenciled on the front, while a white vertical bar adorns the rear of the shell, indicating that the latter once belonged to some officer deployed in Europe. First name Mary, now hardly legible, was painted in capital letters on the left-hand side of the shell.

President Roosevelt initiated the creation of the United Service Organizations before the country formally entered the conflict; merging the Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA and other associations, its main mission consisted in providing recreation for servicemen and their families.

Quite good, worn condition; the upper surface shows several dents of various depth and the right-hand bale is missing.
