Genuine WWII US Navy M1 helmet, front seam and fixed loops, manufactured by McCord, shell number 632B. Original canvas chinstrap with steel buckle and brass hook. Name W.J. Freed has been stenciled in black paint on the outer surface and written on the chinstrap; the latter is also adorned with handwritten mentions Bill Freed, CB's and MM2c.
Comes with its original liner, manufactured by Firestone, complete with khaki cotton web suspension and neckband, russet leather sweatband, OD-painted A washers, and leather chinstrap. Name has been stenciled in black paint on the outer surface and written on the sweatband, whereas initials WJF and GBY have been engraved on the inner surface.
Great homogeneous set, in good overall condition.
William Jacob Freed was born on February 17, 1910 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and joined the US Navy on November 1943 (service number 818-84-80). He went on to serve with a Naval Construction Battalion and deployed from January 21, 1944 to November 9, 1945. He passed away on May 12, 1998.
