Rare and nice genuine WWII US Army M1 helmet liner, made in cardboard fiber covered with OD cloth, of the second type manufactured by Hawley.

Quite good, worn condition; retains its original cotton web suspension and neckband, leather sweatband, plain A washers, and leather chinstrap.

Some medical tape, bearing name Waters, has been stuck on the front and then covered with a layer of varnish; another section of tape, on which name Wilson R. Waters has been written along with ASN 35690869, has been stuck on the inner surface.

Wilson Reed Waters was born on September 30, 1918 in New Washington, Indiana and joined the US Army on December 16, 1942. It seems that he spent most of his service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Discharged on March 10, 1946 as a Staff Sergeant, he passed away on December 10, 1985.
