Genuine WWII US Army M1 helmet liner, of the synthetic resin-coated, compressed-fiber type manufactured by Mine Safety Appliances Co.
The front shows a 6.3-inch vertical split, while one of the rivets located at the rear is missing; the outer surface has been adorned with a 1st Lieutenant rank insignia, painted under the 8th Infantry Division emblem (decal).
The inner assembly only retains some of its A washers (oxidized) along with fragments of the cotton web suspension.
