

Genuine WWII US M1 helmet, front seam and fixed bales, manufactured by McCord, shell number 633C.
Original canvas chinstrap with brass hook and steel buckle. Name MacMonegle C.W. has been stenciled in white paint on the inner surface of the shell.
Comes with its original liner, manufactured by Westinghouse, retaining its khaki cotton web suspension and neckband, and OD-painted A washers; name MacMonegle C.W. has been stenciled in white paint on the outer surface (at the rear), while some rank insignia was painted on the front, probably much later.
Nice homogeneous set, in quite good overall condition.
Charles William MacMonegle was born on September 17, 1923 in Bridgeport, Connecticut and joined the US Navy on December 10, 1942 (service number 643-05-11). He went on to serve as a Corpsman with the crew of USS LSM-227, which was commissioned on October 5, 1944 and deployed to the Pacific. He was discharged on February 18, 1946 as a Pharmacist's Mate 1st Class, and passed away on April 30, 1944.
