Box, Ration, Ten-in-One, 1944
Nice genuine WWII US Army cardboard box intended for the Ten-in-One ration, packed by American Chicle Company and dated February 1944.
The Ten-in-One ration was introduced in June 1943 and consisted of a main carton holding four smaller boxes: two in corrugated cardboard (First Half of 5 Rations) and another two in stronger laminated and bituminized cardboard (Second Half of 5 Rations). This type was based on the British 'Compo' Ration of 1942 -- its purpose was to feed ten men for one day. The present ration was made up of five different menus, containing cereal, jam, coffee, tinned milk, biscuits, various meat and vegetables courses, tinned fruit, confections...
