Grouping, T/5 Elmer Mass, 2nd Inf. Reg., 5th Infantry Division
Very nice genuine WWII US Army grouping, made up of an 'Ike Jacket' of the type adopted in April 1944 and a 'Special' khaki flannel shirt.
The jacket retains some of its original insignia: US and Infantry collar disks, 5th and 102nd Infantry Divisions shoulder sleeve insignia, Technician 5th Grade rank stripes, Combat Infantry Badge, 'Ruptured Duck' and Overseas Service Bars. Label dated June 3, 1944, size 38R. Name Mass. E.L. and ASN 37098146 have been handwritten in the collar.
The standard issue flannel shirt also retains its 5th and 102nd Infantry Divisions shoulder patches, Technician 5th Grade rank stripes and Overseas Service Bars. Size 14 1/2 x 32. Laundry number M-8146 has been inked inside.
Great homogeneous set, in perfect condition.
Elmer Leo Mass was born on February 2, 1918 in Henning, Minnesota and joined the US Army on January 15, 1942. He went on to serve with the 2nd Infantry Regiment (5th Infantry Division) prior to transferring to the 409th Infantry Regiment (103rd Infantry Division). Discharged on November 5, 1945, he passed away on March 4, 1997.
