Grouping, Cpt. Clyde Duffield, Service Co., 13th Inf. Regt., 8th Infantry Division, ETO
Rare genuine WWII US Army grouping, which belonged to some Captain Clyde W. Duffield, who served with the 8th Infantry Division prior to transferring to the 3rd Armored Division, and includes the following items:
- M1 helmet, fixed loops and front seam, adorned with the 8th Infantry Division insignia; the buckle of the canvas chinstrap has been covered with black tape; comes along with its Firestone liner (khaki cotton web suspension, russet leather sweatband, blackened-brass A washers, leather chinstrap), which features the 8th Infantry Division insignia above a painted Captain rank insignia;
- officer's visor hat, manufactured in 1943 by Ayres & Smith, Ltd. in London, Britain, lacking its stiffener yet retaining its cap badge, chinstrap and buttons; mention Capt. Clyde W. Duffield and ASN O-382986 have been written inside; size 7;
- officer's short overcoat of the beltless type; the 3rd Armored Division insignia has been sewn on the left shoulder, while mention Capt. Clyde W. Duffield and ASN O-382986 have been written in the collar;
- officer's service coat, 'chocolate' wool gabardine, retaining all original insignia and decorations -- 3rd Armored Division insignia (left shoulder) and 8th Infantry Division insignia (right shoulder), Captain rank insignia and 36th Armored Infantry Regiment DUI on shoulder tabs, crossed rifles on the collar, medal ribbons (Bronze Star, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Stars, WWII Victory Medal), Meritorious Service Unit Badge, and four Overseas Service Bars; a russet leather Sam Browne Belt comes along with this uniform;
- 'Ike Jacket' bearing the 3rd Armored Division insignia (left shoulder) and 8th Infantry Division insignia (right shoulder), as well as four Overseas Service Bars;
- khaki cotton garrison cap, fitted with officer's black and gold piping and sporting a Captain rank insignia;
- M1938 map case manufactured by Boyt in 1942, with rhodoid (damaged) and pencils; ASN O-382986 has been written under the flap;
- a set of various personal belongings: dog tag with early production chain (Duffield, Clyde W, O-382986, vaccinated against tetanus in 1941 and 1943, blood type O, Protestant), Park Sherman windproof lighter (adorned with initials U.S., Major rank insignia, crossed rifles, and initials CWD), named leather wallet, officer's notebook, pair of gloves, and Kraeuter pliers;
- corpus of documents: map of France edited by the Corps of Engineers in 1944 (scale: 1:1,000,0000), greeting card sent to his wife in December 1944, May 8, 1945 issue of The Stars and Stripes, May 25, 1945 issue of Golden Arrow, handbook on arrangements for dependents.

Clyde Wesley Duffield was born on September 15, 1911 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. An officer in the Reserve since 1939, he was promoted to Captain in November 1942 and went on to serve with Service Company, 13th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, deploying to Europe from December 5, 1943 to July 10, 1945 and participating in every campaign his unit was involved in.
Upon repatriation, he transferred to 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, 3rd Armored Division and was discharged on December 6, 1945, prior to resuming his service during the Korean War. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and passed away on December 12, 1987.
