William Louis Pontius was born on January 27, 1916 in Dixon, Illinois and joined the US Army on June 18, 1941. He went on to serve in the Quartermaster Corps, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1942, then promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 1943 and to the rank of Captain in 1945. He was discharged on January 29, 1946, and passed away on March 3, 1992.
