Jacket & Garrison Cap, Grey, US Navy, Ens. Herbert Coggin, USS Alkes
Nice genuine WWII US Navy officer's grey work jacket, cotton twill. Virtually similar to the khaki work uniform, featuring four button-flap pockets. Authorized in April 1943, the 'battleship gray' color was intended for providing better camouflage aboard vessels, and was only produced during that year.
The present jacket is in very good overall condition and retains its original buttons and shoulder boards. The latter feature the specific insignia of a Supply Corps Ensign.
Comes along with its matching garrison cap, showing some moth damage. Name tags sewn in the collar of the jacket and in the side hat indicate that this uniform once belonged to some H.L. Coggin.
Herbert Lee Coggin was born on December 1st, 1923 in Springfied, Missouri. He graduated as an Ensign in 1944 and went on to serve with the crew of the USS Alkes (AK-110). He passed away on March 6, 2022.
