Great genuine WWII US Navy Mk 1 utility knife, manufactured by Colonial, hallmarked U.S.N. on the left side of the ricasso and Mark I on the right side. Full black bakelite grip. The pommel has been repaired at some point but the blade is in relatively good shape and still sharp and pointy.
The present kinfe is in nice overall condition and comes in its theater-made scabbard, based on a standard issue type initially intended for the Mk 2 fighting knife -- the sheath itself has been replaced with a shorter, black-painted, metal version which fits the length of the Mk 1 utility knife, at the tip of which a rectangular ring has been welded in order to attach a small leather strap featuring a pin buckle. A similar ring has been added on the heavy duty canvas section of the assembly, so that extra straps can be used to attach the whole set onto the wearer's leg.
This rare and homogeneous set may have belonged to some Naval Combat Demolition Unit sailor or to a frogman of the Underwater Demolition Teams.
