Armband, Shore Patrol, US Navy
Genuine WWII US Navy dark blue felt armband, adorned with yellow initials 'SP' -- standing for Shore Patrol.
Shore Patrols were initially made up of US Navy personnel temporarily assigned to limited law enforcement missions ashore. As such, their primary objective consisted in 'supplementing local police forces in handling sailors on liberty'. Some permanent units were created in 1943, recruiting volunteers amongst various police departments across the country.
The present armband is in very good overall condition. Both ends were intended for being linked together thanks to some elastic band (not included here).
Dimensions: 10.8in x 3.9in.
