Helmet, M1, Fixed Loops, HAWLEY Liner, F1c Leo Zatoon, 21st Naval Construction Bn., Seabees, PTO
Genuine WWII US Navy M1 helmet, front seam and fixed loops, manufactured by McCord, shell number 146A. Original first pattern canvas chinstrap with brass buckle and hook. Name L.P. Zatoon has been stenciled in black paint on both the outer and inner surfaces.
Comes with its rare original cloth-covered fiber liner, of the second type manufactured by Hawley. Complete with khaki cotton web suspension, russet leather sweatband, rayon neckband, and plain A washers. The front has also been adorned with name L.P. Zatoon, stenciled in a similar way.
Great amazing homogeneous set, in good overall condition.
Leo Paul Zatoon was born on November 9, 1919 in Holyoke, Massachusetts and joined the US Navy on May 25, 1942 (service number 666-29-45). He went on to serve with the 21st Naval Construction Battalion and deployed to the Pacific. He was discharged as a Fireman 1st Class on October 13, 1944 and passed away on September 20, 2005.
