Flags, Semaphore, US Navy, S3c Reid Henrichs, SS James McNeill Whistler
Rare genuine WWII US Navy signal flags, intended for conveying information at a distance by means of a particular visual code known as semaphore.
Every number and every letter of the Latin alphabet corresponds to a specific position of the hand-held semaphore flags.
Nice homogeneous set, in very good overall condition.
The handwritten inscriptions visible on both flagpoles indicate that the present pair once belonged to some Seaman 3rd Class Reid O. Henrichs, who served with the crew of SS James McNeill Whistler in 1943.
Reid Oscar Henrichs was born on March 3, 1921 in Waldo, Illinois and joined the US Navy on August 19, 1942 (service number 724-51-29). He was discharged on December 18, 1945 as a Quartermaster 1st Class and passed away on July 17, 1980.
