Armor, Protective, Flyer's, USAAF, Complete
Rare genuine WWII USAAF Flyer's Protective Armor, fitted with manganese steel square and intended for being worn by bomber crews -- particularly aerial gunners. Spec. AXS-1025.
Manufactured by Fashion Frocks, Inc. The use of nylon fabric instead of cotton cloth and the lack of chest tab indicate that the present armor was produced circa late 1943, early 1944.
Based on the prototype developed in 1942-1943 along with British company Wilkinson Sword, this assembly is made up of a two-piece vest (M1 and M2) and an apron (M3). In case of emergency, the wearer could get rid off the whole assembly thanks to the quick-release system featuring Lift-the-Dot fasteners.
Complete and in very good overall condition.
