Lamp Assembly, Type A-1, Identification, Aerial Delivery Container, Red, 1943, in Box
Genuine WWII USAF Type A-1 lamp assembly, intended for being automatically turned on as the parachute opened, thus assisting with locating A-4 or A-5 cargo containers on the ground during night drops.
Manufactured by Standard Aircraft Products, Inc. in Dayton, Ohio. Contract number is dated 1943.
Different light colors were used depending on the cargo in order to identify the contents -- this red lamp was thus designed for being used with red canopies.
Complete and in very good overall condition; comes in its original cardboard box.
